May the Fourth be with you. Cinco de Mayo. Memorial Day. May is one action packed month, even without all the extra events happening in and around Bellingham. We’ve included one Seattle event and one Winthrop event this month, but they both look real fun and worthy of a drive.

Summer Potluck

Whatcom Falls Park, small picnic shelter
Come one, come all! Our first summer potluck will be going off next week, Tuesday the 8th. Everyone is welcome to attend. Friends, family, furry friends. Bring them all and join us. Nancy will be hosting and making the main dish. Come with a side dish or dessert to share with others. This will be a monthly occasion through the summer.

The Rendezvous
Sun Mountain, Winthrop WA
A weekend long, multi sport event combined with a music festival. This is going to be a truly fun time, and worth the drive from Bellingham. The weather on the East Side will be drier and warmer, and the venue is in a prime location for access to outdoor activities. Check out the website for costs.

Skagit Spring Classic
Starts and ends in Burlington
This is the 28th edition of this event! There are four distances to choose from and they are fully supported with wonderfully stocked aid stations. You’ll enjoy scenic views of Skagit and Whatcom Counties on your ride. Upon finishing, you’ll be treated to all you can eat pasta. Registration is open now.

BeWild Speaker Series
Mountaineers, Sandpoint Way Seattle
This installment of the BeWild speaker series is called Section Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. There will be a panel discussion lead by four Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) hikers and Mountaineers authors sharing their adventures documenting the 2,650 miles of the PCT.

Come on out to cheer on the participants as they ski, run, bike, canoe and kayak their way to greatness. This is an all around party weekend, and several of the businesses in Downtown Fairhaven will be set up for the occasion.

Amber Casali: Hiking Washington’s Fire Lookouts
Village Books, Fairhaven
Amber’s book highlights 44 fire lookouts in Washington. The state’s fire lookouts not only have played an important role in forest-fire management, but have also been temporary homes for the interesting people who spend summers isolated from civilization to watch over the forests below.

There are tasks for almost every ability ranging from items such as landscape work, painting, light plumbing repairs, cleaning, organizing supplies, filing, preparing camper name-tag holders, moving “junk” to the area of the dumpster for disposal, etc. Lunch and snacks are provided. Bring gloves and any available hand tools. Sign up here.
